Holding the Line

Thousands of Union Soldiers in Arlington played an important role in the defenses of Washington.  In "Holding the Line" author Mark Benbow explores the lives of these men who helped guard the Capital.

As many as 10,000 men served in the forts at any given time, while nearby training camps prepared Union soldiers—including the Army of the Potomac—for battle. Arlington County (then called Alexandria County) was, in some respects, the largest military base in the world.  To read the full article click here.
