Mission
The Mission of the Alliance (founded in 2008) is to support the Civil War Defenses of Washington through preservation, awareness, and community.
Preservation
The Alliance supports the historic and physical preservation of the fortifications through improved interpretation, maintenance, and safeguarding the sites from further developmental encroachment.
Awareness
The Alliance increases public awareness of the Civil War Defenses of Washington through events, lectures to students and the public, walking tours, bus tours, helping to connect the forts with walking and biking paths, and the provision of a new visitor center/ranger station at Ft. Stevens or another location.
Community
The Alliance fosters a diverse community of individuals, groups, and agencies in DC, VA, and MD (including the National Park Service), together focused on protecting and improving information and interest in the Forts, including the African-American history connected to the Forts.
